Letter Adrift, 2024

Letter Adrift is a video installation that explores displacement, belonging, and the enigma of communication through the interplay of analog and digital processes. The work features three synchronized videos—one in positive, one in negative, and a third blending both—where fragments of a poem appear disarticulated, repeated, and displaced, creating shifting images and layered meanings.
Although the videos evoke a digital aesthetic, the process is entirely analog: the texts were typed on a manual typewriter, then scanned, transformed into GIFs, and finally converted into video. Across the screens, words and symbols drift and unravel, evoking the elusive nature of meaning and the persistence of secrets.
At the heart of the installation is a fragment from Rafael Cadenas’ poem Intemperie:
"I had to dissent, hide, disappear.
I had to be dissonance.
I had to let myself go,
adrift,
without explaining.”
