Natural Circles: Rebirth and Ruin

”Natural Circles: Rebirth and Ruin", 2024 multichannel video installation, circular mirrors and sandbags.

Natural Circles: Rebirth and Ruin, 2024

Natural Circles: Rebirth and Ruin is a multichannel video installation that juxtaposes nostalgic representations of the past with the environmental realities of the present, creating a visual dialogue between memory, crisis, and transformation. Combining digitized 8 mm family vacation footage with contemporary documentation of natural disasters and climate instability, the installation explores the same landscapes from both emotional and ecological perspectives.

Presented through circular projections inspired by stereoscopic and binocular vision, the work transforms the exhibition space into an immersive environment where fragmented memories coexist with images of environmental vulnerability. Circular mirrors and sandbags subtly reinforce the tension between protection and collapse, nostalgia and catastrophe, while emphasizing the fragile relationship between human experience and the changing natural world.

Through moving image, reflection, repetition, and spatial intervention, Natural Circles: Rebirth and Ruin reflects on the cyclical nature of destruction and renewal, proposing memory itself as a vulnerable landscape continuously shaped by environmental and emotional forces.
