"Bonds of Belonging" (an aesthetic revelation) 2025
Multimedia installation composed of a multi-channel video installation with nine monitors, 18 individual viewers suspended on a steel cable displaying family photographs, and a conceptual exploration of emotional and environmental parallels.
Variable dimensions.
“Bonds of Belonging” (an aesthetic revelation) is a project that explores the intricate and often cataclysmic dynamics of family relationships. Drawing from personal archives and images of natural phenomena, it transforms everyday moments into a visual language that examines the fragility and resilience of emotional bonds.
Establishing parallels between familial dynamics and environmental phenomena, the work portrays them as delicate ecosystems—prone to disruption yet capable of renewal. By immersing viewers in a reflection on memory, emotional turbulence, and connection, the project invites contemplation of the shared yet deeply personal experience of family.
The project consists of two installations that explore family relationships from complementary perspectives. The first, Domino Effect, is a multi-channel video installation composed of nine monitors arranged like domino tiles. This configuration reflects how a single event can trigger a chain reaction, deeply altering the structure and dynamics of a family.
The second installation, La Niña Event, features a sequence of family photographs displayed through 18 small individual viewers suspended at different heights on a steel cable. These intimate viewers, which require close interaction, evoke both the intimacy of family moments and the memory and voyeuristic curiosity they inspire. The piece draws a conceptual parallel between the emotional fragility of family bonds and the La Niña climatic phenomenon, highlighting the transformative power and unpredictability inherent in both.
